Space and Impact Rocks

Meteorites formed as part of the early solar system 4.56 Ga ago and have been impacting the Earth ever since. There are many different types of meteorites, the most common are stony meteorites, of which the chondrites are believed to have made up the bulk of our planet. Other space rocks include the iron meteorites that appear to be metallic cores of long disintegrated protoplanets.
